Piping Stories: Tartan Trek, Over & Out
Back in Santa Monica, I had the pleasure of piping Scotsman Craig Ferguson off on the start of his Tartan Trek, an epic walk across the entire United States from Santa Monica Pier to Boston, raising money for mental health charities in Scotland along the way.
There was something wonderfully Scottish about the send-off. Nobody seemed entirely sure which direction Craig was supposed to start walking, while I was thinking, Please, son, skirt the Mojave and stay out of Death Valley. Craig just hoisted the Saltire and got on with it while I sent him off with Scotland the Brave.
Months later, Craig walked into Boston Common just in time for the World Cup, having raised more than Β£1 million for mental health in Scotland along the way. From the first few steps on Santa Monica Pier to the finish line in Boston, what an extraordinary achievement.
